- Green/blue/red bank machines: Intesa Sanpaolo, Unicredit, BNL, BPM. They sit inside or next to a branch, never as standalone kiosks.
- Avoid the yellow "Euronet" and "Your Cash" machines: they pop up near Trevi, the Colosseum, the Pantheon and Termini. Fees are 5–10x Italian banks'.
- Always decline DCC conversion: when the ATM asks "pay in EUR or in your currency?", always choose EUR. The DCC rate is 5–8% worse.
