ATMs with no fees in Rome
Which machines have low fees, which ones to avoid at all costs, and the trick that saves you 5–8% on every withdrawal (DCC).
Italian banks with low fees
- ✓ Intesa Sanpaolo — green, 200+ ATMs in the city
- ✓ Unicredit — red, in every neighbourhood
- ✓ BNL BNP Paribas Group — dark green
- ✓ Banco BPM — yellow/blue
- ✓ Crédit Agricole Italia — bright green
- ✓ BPER Banca — red/white
Typical fee for a foreign EU card: €0–3 per withdrawal.
ATMs to AVOID
- ✗ Euronet (yellow) — up to €9.95 per withdrawal
- ✗ Travelex / Travelex IPS — €7–9
- ✗ Your Cash — €6–8
- ✗ Cardtronics — €6–9
⚠️ You'll find them near the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Termini, the Vatican. Often disguised as a "bank ATM", but they are independent kiosks.
The DCC trick — always decline!
The ATM will ask: "Pay in EUR or in your own currency (USD/GBP)?"

Real interbank rate. You save 5–8%.
✗ Your currency
DCC: inflated rate. You lose €10–20 per €200.
