  • The data describes Essential City Info users only, not every visitor to the city.
  • The sample is not necessarily representative: it depends on the site's coverage and popularity.
  • Users may include residents, local operators and people planning a trip.
  • The data cannot tell nationality: we do not collect it.
  • We do not build individual profiles or individual journeys.
  • Percentages describe distributions; they do not prove causes.
  • City comparisons are valid only when metrics are comparable and each city reaches the threshold.

Method and privacy

We use aggregated data about interactions with the service. The system is designed to minimise personal data collection, not to collect nationality and not to keep IP addresses in analytical datasets. Public statistics are shown only when observations exceed the threshold.

Purpose
Understand which practical information is needed most, improve the pages and publish a transparent observatory.
Data collected
Event type, category, area, hour, page language, device type (smartphone/tablet/desktop), temporary technical session identifier.
Data not collected
Nationality, IP addresses in analytical datasets, precise user coordinates, individual journeys, free-text search strings.
Retention
Raw events are deleted after 14 months; only weekly aggregates remain.
Opting out
You can switch counting off in the site's privacy settings: from then on no event is recorded from that browser.
