Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-25
This Cookie Policy explains how Essential City Info uses cookies and similar storage technologies (localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB) on your device. Last updated: 2026-04-25.
1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. Similar technologies include localStorage and sessionStorage (browser-based key/value storage) and IndexedDB. Throughout this policy we use the term "cookies" to refer to all such technologies.
2. Categories of cookies we use
STRICTLY NECESSARY (no consent required, GDPR/ePrivacy exempt): authentication session token (Supabase auth), language preference (mm:lang), favourites stored locally (mm:favorites), location-permission state, last-visited route. Without these the Service cannot function.
ANALYTICS (consent required, currently NOT deployed): if and when we add analytics (e.g. Plausible, Google Analytics 4, or Lovable Analytics with personalised data), a consent banner will appear and you will be able to accept, reject, or customise. No analytics cookies are set until you accept.
MARKETING / ADVERTISING: NONE. We do NOT use any advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies.
THIRD-PARTY: when you click an external link (Google Maps, Julia chatbot, embassy site) the third-party site may set its own cookies. We do not control these — refer to the third party's policy.
3. Specific cookies and storage keys
sb-* (Supabase auth) — strictly necessary; persists your login session for the duration of the session or until you sign out.
mm:lang — strictly necessary; persists your chosen interface language (it/en/es).
mm:favorites — strictly necessary; stores your local favourites list (only when not logged in; logged-in users sync to the database).
mm:home:counts:v2 — strictly necessary cache of category counts; expires automatically.
These keys live in localStorage, not cookies. They never leave your device unless explicitly synced as part of an authenticated request.
4. How to manage cookies
Browser settings: you can block, delete or restrict cookies and storage in your browser settings. See aboutcookies.org for instructions per browser.
Clearing storage: in your browser developer tools (Application → Storage) you can clear localStorage at any time. This will sign you out and reset preferences.
If we add analytics in the future, the consent banner will let you opt in/out at any time.
5. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Policy when we add or remove cookies. The "Last updated" date will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated as described in the Privacy Policy.
