Terminal differences at Heathrow
Heathrow has separate stations for Terminals 2 and 3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. Check which train serves your terminal: services do not all use the same branch. The Piccadilly and Elizabeth lines serve the terminals through different routes; consult https://tfl.gov.uk/ for changes and internal transfers.
Gatwick: rail links rather than a Tube
Gatwick has no Underground connection; the main public options are the Gatwick Express to Victoria, taking about 30 minutes, and Southern or Thameslink services calling at more stations along the way for a lower fare but a somewhat longer journey. Gatwick's North and South terminals share a single station, connected by an internal shuttle.

Taxis and what varies by route
Taxi fares between either airport and central London are not fixed the way Paris airport taxis are; they are generally metered or quoted in advance, and prices vary considerably by traffic, time of day and operator. Official ranks sit outside Arrivals at both airports; confirm an estimated price before setting off, and treat any flat quote as indicative rather than guaranteed.
